Swan River Grain Elevators

Until late 2015 there were two Swan River grain elevators, both owned by Cargill.

The Swan River “A” grain elevator was located just north of the town of Swan River, Manitoba. The elevator was relatively modern and had three bins for additional storage, for a total capacity of 5,680 tonnes.

Swan River B

Swan River “B” Grain Elevator

The Swan River “B” grain elevator was located in the middle of the town of Swan River, Manitoba. This Cargill grain elevator consisted of an elevator, a small annex and two concrete silos. It had a total capacity of 5,600 tonnes.

The Swan River Valley grain elevator is located just north of the town of Swan River, Manitoba. This elevator is owned by Richardson Pioneer. The elevator consists of a central orange elevator with three large storage bins on each side.

The elevator has a capacity of 13,310 tonnes and has storage for more than 100 rail cars on three tracks. It used to have a capacity of 4,850 tonnes but it was greatly expanded around 2002.

This elevator is located at the end of the CN Erwood subdivision.

Birch River Grain Elevator

The sole remaining Birch River grain elevator is a former UGG elevator. This elevator appears to be unused although it still bears the UGG logo.

The Birch River elevator is the most northern wooden grain elevator remaining in Manitoba.

The elevator stands alone by the former railway right-of-way. It used to be on the CN Erwood subdivision. The railway served Birch River until approximately 2000.

The elevator has a large annex attached. The Birch River grain elevator has a capacity of 5,600 tonnes of grain.

There is a small private elevator between Bowsman and Birch River, visible from the highway. No details are known about this elevator.
